What an HPCaVe account gives me access to ?

Each person using the plateform  will have access to a home directory and a work directory.

These directories are NOT backed up. The home directory is subject to a disk quota of 30 GB for all users.

How can I change/reset my password ?

To recover your password, simply log in to auth.annuaire.upmc.fr and ask to receive it by e-mail.

My account is deactivated/suspended ? How can I reactivate it?

You can send us a mail  at mesu@upmc.fr  with the completed application form located http://hpcave.upmc.fr/index.php/usage/open-an-account/

Can My computational  needs be extensive ?

If you need more ressources you need to send a mail through this page http://hpcave.upmc.fr/index.php/contact  explaining why that need .

Are my data protected ?

User data are kept isolated from others. With our Linux systems, another user cannot see nor access your program and data.  IT experts insure data integrity through various security measures.

Are my data backed up ?

There is no backups for your data.

Do I have quotas to respect ?

Yes, concerning the home directory  which is subject to a disk quota of 30 GB. When the home directory disk quota is exceeded, users will have their oldest files tagged for deletion and the latter will be completed at the specified date. Data files stored in the work directory will be erased 3 months after their last access, modification or creation.

A computing cluster is a set of high speed computers for intensive computations and data processing. The HPC systems include several hundreds processors (thousands of cores) that can work concurrently on very large problems.

Is there a difference between scratch alpha and scratch beta?

Yes , There is a difference in submission options between Scratchbeta (ICE XA) and Scratchalpha (UV-2000)

  • On MeSU alpha, the whole machine with its 1024 cores is seen as a single entity by both OS and PBS.
  • On MeSU-beta it’s different, all blades have an OS and a PBS daemon, and are seen with their 24 cores each.

I have never used HPC systems before. Is there support?

We can not provide you a trainning however if you need some tutorial you can find all the needed information on these websites

I am experiencing troubles running/compiling my program.

For that kind of issue you can contact the technical support by mail at mesu@upmc.fr  . They will examine your request and see if we can resolve it with our administrator system and  computational engineer

My parallel job does not seem to scale correctly ?

You can send a mail at mesu@upmc.fr and they will examine your request and see if we can resolve it with our computational engineers

The program I wish to use is not installed on the servers, and I can not compile it from the sources ?

How many jobs can I submit ?

You can submit no more than 20 jobs at the same time

 

Useful commands

How can I see my space disk ?

The command line  quota -u -s username  gives you your disk occupation and limits in human readble format

How do I know that my job is running ?

With the command line you can see your job status qstat  -u + username  if you see the letter:

  • R it will means that your job is running
  • H it will means that your job is on hold
  • Q it will means that your jobs is queued

How can I delete a job ?

The command line qdel  myjobID will allow you to delete your jobs

Why did my job failed ?

The command line qstat -f  myjobID  will give you the reason why your job failed

Is it possible to locate my job ?

The command line tracejob  myjobID  will show to which nodes  your jobs went
