MeSU-alpha is a SGI UV2000 server (SGI presentation), which has the particularity of being a SMP machine. In other words, it differs from a classical cluster architecture in the sense that it can act as a large shared memory system, with a total of 16TB of RAM memory, associated with 1024 cores.

Compute nodes

MeSU-alpha is equipped with 64 computes blades, each of which made of 2 motherboards (or nodes), equipped with one Intel Xeon (Sandy Bridge) of 8 cores and with a local memory of 128Gb. The nodes are connected by a Numalink system (version 6) developed by SGI, which allows for the large shared memory.

Front-end / login nodes

2 front-end servers, also called login nodes, allow users to install, compile and launch their jobs on the UV 2000 server.
Each server is equipped with 2 Intel Xeon (Sandy Bridge) with 8 cores, 128 GB of ram memory and 600GB of hard drive storage.

Management server

A last server, called the management server, allows the system administrator to manage MeSU-alpha resources and perform maintenance operations.

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES 12 SP2) is installed on MeSU-alpha, with the following associated software suite (other software are of course available) :
